Mantecados is a very traditional Gibraltarian sweet treat, originating from Southern parts of Spain and Andalucia. It’s name comes from manteca, meaning butter/lard, with which they are usually made of and although they can be consumed at any time during the year, they are mostly eaten during Christmas or Easter holidays.
Being such a popular item, it was only a matter of time that someone would ask us for a healthier option, so we got to work and made these variations which turned out to be perfectly tasting and free from Sugar, Wheat, Gluten, Grain, Dairy, Soy & Egg. Perfect with people with many intolerances.
We shared this recipe with our fellow friends at Mama Lotties; their website caters to traditional Gibraltarian recipes and dishes, so, it felt most fitting to have it on there.
